Don’t worry about answering that, it’s actually a trick question!
Because if you’re already too busy being “busy,” then you’ve already fallen into one of the major mistakes salon owners make.
Common mistake #5 : BAD TIME MANAGEMENT
I can’t stress enough how important it is to know not only where to spend your time but also how much of it you spend on one thing and another.
Mistake #5 is all about how you end up busy… being busy. Very rarely does a salon owner sit on their hands just thinking, “Oh well, what will I do today?” Most of us are as busy as all hell and that’s because a lot of us have two jobs.
You have one job where you work on the floor or in the beauty rooms, and then you have another job which is to look after everybody else in your business. Now even if you’re not doing the books or the rosters or things like that, you are still in charge of everything.
A lot of salon owners love working on the floor, and that’s totally OK but if you find you’re spreading yourself too thin, you have to understand that your job as the owner is to make sure your team are doing their job well and the business is running smoothly.
If you’re working 38 hours on the floor, how could you possibly make sure that everything else is being done? It’s really important to know where to spend your time, so there’s on the floor and there’s running the business.
Getting that balance of where to spend your time productively is a skill that took me years to get right. I understand how hard it can be to step back from the floor and trust your team to do their job so you can focus on the growth of your salon’s success.
If you need some advice on where to start managing your time the way you want, I am here to help guide you right now. I have some limited time open for short 15-minute calls so we can talk about how to get you a business AND a life that you LOVE.
